WEST ICHEON
Mesozoic granites are
distributed throughout much of the Korean Peninsula, both in North & South
Korea. Below are photos of weathered Daebo Granite. The
Daebo Granite is a complex suite of Jurassic-aged granitic batholiths intruded
along an ancient subduction zone. The North Koreans call this stuff the
Tanchon Complex.
The granites seen below are
exposures in West Icheon (a little east of Highways 35 & 37), located about
29 miles southeast of downtown Seoul.
