VARISCITE

Variscite is a hydrous aluminum phosphate mineral (Al(PO4)·2H2O).  It has a bluish-green color similar to turquoise, but is much scarcer.

Variscite (blue-green) in polished nodule from the Clay Canyon Mine, Utah County, Utah, USA.  The dirty yellow-green portions are the rare phosphate mineral crandallite (CaAl3(PO4)(PO3OH)(OH)6).

(CMC RM 1289, Cincinnati Museum Center's rock & mineral collection, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA).
