MIGMATITE
Migmatite is the result of very high-grade
metamorphism & partial melting of gneiss. Migmatite is a
half-metamorphic, half-igneous rock with a half-gneiss & half-granite
appearance. It has both foliated & crystalline textures. The
granite portions of migmatite formed from cooling of partially melted gneiss.
Migmatite (8.1 cm across) - the dark-speckled bands have not melted. The
pinkish-orangish-salmon colored bands are granite, formed from cooling of
partially melted portions of the original rock.
