LEWIS FALLS &
LEWIS CANYON
Lewis Falls is an attractive
waterfalls in the southern part of the Yellowstone area. It's located on
the western side of South Entrance Road. The rocks flanking the river
here belong to the Pleistocene-aged Aster Creek Flow (Central Plateau Member,
Plateau Rhyolite).
Across the road from Lewis
Falls, looking southeast, is a view of Lewis Canyon. Notice all the dead,
burned & bleached trees. They were all killed in the famous
Yellowstone fires of 1988. Despite the magnificent canyon, the landscape
is still relatively ugly & barren after all this time.
